“Creating anything always requires the destruction of something else, so make sure what you create is worth what you destroy.”

“Creating anything always requires the destruction of something else, so make sure what you create is worth what you destroy.”
Paola Torres Núñez del Prado (PE/SE) is an artist who explores the limits of visuality and sound, starting from the human voice and the sounds of nature (flowing water, wind) to sounds that are usually considered less harmonious, such as the clamor of machines, sound saturation, or computer noise. In this way, she examines notions of interpretation, translation, misrepresentation and perceptual cross-modality; with the generated distortions/destruction of patterns serving as an analogue for the failure of human subjectivity and its intervention in the natural world. Her current research on Peruvian textiles is part of a larger investigation which is also a reflection on the impact of Western thought on traditional societies.
Paola Torres Nuñez del Prado holds an M.A. from The Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm (2012) and an undergraduate degree in Studio Art at Hunter College, City University of New York (2005). She has exhibited her work in countries such as the United States, Sweden, Peru, Brazil and Italy, and has curated art projects in Lima, Cuzco, New York and Stockholm.
