| 15.1–31.1 2010 Candyland, Gotlandsgatan 76 Chun Lee Wang Gurt Would Be Your River Chun Lee Wang Gurt moved to Scandinavia from China via New York because of Edward Munch, whom she always felt close to. She considers Munch a master in portraying heavy emotions such as anguish, jealousy, despair and death. As a trained printmaking artist and painter, her artistic practice includes many different medias and expressions. She works with drawing, graphic, painting, sculpture, animation, photography and film. Her works often involves human relations, uncertainness, disintegration, fear, daydreams, and narratives of the past and such that might come. Her work is often deeply melancholic while being playful at the same time. Wang Gurt grasps her expression with care, seriousness and humor. She works energetically and joyfully with every detail. Each stroke / cut bears her definite signature. Her artistic expressions reflect the conceptual art in conjunction with Chinese aesthetic classic and the grand European romantic tradition. Chun Lee Wang Gurt was born in China and educated at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. She was also studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm and at Pratt Institute in New York. She now lives and works in Stockholm and is one of the most important Chinese artists based in Scandinavia. The exhibition at Candyland includes recent works, paintings, woodcuts and the film “Departure without nostalgia”.
